Dear friends,
It is good to be back online!
We recently sent you an email update where we shared about our trip back to Moldova. What I forgot to mention was that the reason we almost missed out flight out of Frankfurt was because Olga and I lost each other at the airport. You already know about the stroller incident. We gave it to LH in one piece and when we got it back the front wheel looked more like the Pisa tower. The flight attendant was very apologetic and led us to believe that if we only get to their Lost and Found area we would definitely get our money back.
What she forgot to mention was that the promised land was more like 2 miles away. We got very close and when it was time to take yet another flight of stairs we decided that I would complete the operation, get our money back (Mr. Naïvety) and Olga and Rebecca would wait for me by the stairs for a few minutes. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong. Instead of money all I got was a damage report which I would have to submit to the LH office in Bucharest, Romania (their closest office to Moldova). I guess bureaucracy exists outside our country as well!
At any rate, it only took me a few minutes to do the paperwork. What I did not realize that the terminal I ended up in had a one way door leading to it. Almost like heaven, right? As I was trying to get back to my family I ended up in a maze of terminals, escalators, elevators, check points, etc. Frankfurt airport building must be bigger than Manhattan! There I was walking (and very soon running) around with an empty stroller. I could already see the Big Brother pointing out that a man running around the airport with an empty stroller looks “a bit” out of the ordinary. I finally got to my gate just to realize that I had all 3 passports, all 3 boarding passes, 2 SIM cards which meant I could not get in touch with Olga and there was no way she could get on the plane even if she decided not to wait for me. I kept asking everyone I could think of for assistance and FINALLY, I saw Olga holding a wiggling baby right next to our 5 carry on pieces. I probably never felt a greater relief in my life.
OK, let me switch to some more serious things. After many prayers and discussions with our leadership Olga and I decided to transition back to our home country of Moldova as we feel like we could be most effective in our home ministry of Campus Crusade. We reported back to our previous assignments (actually, I never dropped mine even when in Hungary) and we are also going to pick up some additional responsibilities primarily in the area of helping other Moldovan staff raise their much needed support.
We are happy, but our parents are probably even happier because for them it means Rebecca will no longer be a mere flat image on their computer screen. As nice as Skype is, nothing comes close to being able to play with her or take her on a walk.
So, for now we know what our next chapter in life is. We will definitely keep you posted on how the Lord continues to use us! Look at it this way. You will get more of those nice big stamps!
From Moldova with love,
Yuri, Olga, Rebecca
