Dear friends,
Praise the Lord! In our last letter we asked you to pray for Rebecca to get a long-term residence visa for Hungary instead of a short-term visa she already had. As you can see, she got it and is very excited about it. Now I can paraphrase Viktor Navorski played by Tom Hanks in “The Terminal” (a must see I must add) and say, “Hungary is not closed”.
The month of April also brought a couple of great teaching opportunities. First, I had a chance to teach several national leaders with Campus Crusade (New Life) about the budgeting process. The main idea behind it was the fact that in our “business” we completely rely on great people like you who faithfully support our work. This means we really need to work hard on making sure we are being good stewards of the money entrusted to us by the Lord through our supporters and plan out our expenses carefully. We had a good time and the budgets these leaders submitted for approval later reflect good planning on their part.
Then I invited a larger group of staff to hear what the Lord taught me about finding ministry partners for us but then, which is just as important, also about staying in touch with those partners so they feel connected with what is going on even if they are thousands of miles away. Something I keep saying to staff around me is that even though as an Operations Director for New Life I have lots and lots of responsibilities, maintaining relationships with my supporters is the most important part of my ministry. As a result of our time I think the light came on for some who confessed that sometimes this “support stuff” stops being a ministry but rather becomes means to do the daily ministry. I was thankful to be able to show people a different perspective.
Last week New Life sponsored a “Weekend to Remember” conference for 25 married couples. Olga and I participated as well. We heard most of the material before, but it was still good to be able to find the time to … talk about us. This is a simple thing but quite often between staying busy with the ministry and having a pretoddler next to us all the time this is not easy to do. We are glad we got to do it!
As you can see, we are staying busy, busy with the good things, looking forward to doing even more for the Lord. We cannot help but acknowledge your role in all of this again. It is your prayers and investments that make all this possible! We are truly thankful!!!
Yuri, Olga, Rebecca
PS Oh, I forgot to mention that during the marriage conference police came again snooping around, but the hotel management told them to go jump in the lake. Moldovan version of “the customer is always right”?
