Dear friends,
Olga and I are back in Moldova!
Our second trip to Houston went very well. Just like last year we spent 10
weeks away from home. Actually, we remembered well how tired we were after
a looooong 10-week trip, so this year we decided to cut the trip back by
one week. So, we planned our trip accordingly. I like to plan and being a
perfectionist, I started working on the tickets and other details back in
December. We had a good plan (or so we thought)! Little did I know that Air
Moldova had a different plan...
In the middle of our trip we found out that Air Moldova has decided to
change its schedule and cancelled a couple of flights a week, including
ours! It was just several weeks before our returning flight home. Yes, I am
aware of the fact that “normally” professional airlines publish their
schedules months and months in advance! Well, I guess, the word “normal”
does not always apply to Moldovan businesses.
This was not the only surprise. Not only did they cancel our flight, they
did not offer us any other tickets! Rather, they just put us on the waiting
list for several weeks claiming that all the planes are packed and there
are no tickets available. In light of the World Cup going on in Germany I
could believe it. I know what you are thinking, “Soccer? World Cup? Big
deal!” I know that you may not be crazy about soccer, but a lot of other
people in the world are (including me:).
We started scratching our heads trying to figure out what to do. Option A
was to fly to Frankfurt hoping to get home somehow, but then we remembered
“The Terminal”. It is a wonderful movie and I like Tom Hanks, but I really
was not ready for Terminal 2! So, we postponed our departure by 1 week. I
guess the Lord wanted to teach me that He is the best Planner in the world
and not me. We were able to see even more people during this “extra” week.
When our time was finally over we got to the airport just to find out that
our travel agent has booked our connecting flight from Frankfurt to
Chisinau on ... July 28th as opposed to June 28th. I was wondering why the
lady with Lufthansa game me that strange look when I asked her to check my
luggage all the way to Moldova. In her mind we were spending the whole
month in Germany. She then checked our carry-on, found it to be too light
to have enough stuff for a month and realized that a mistake was made. PTL,
they found seats for us on the flight we were planning on taking and 24
hours later we walked into our apartment in Chisinau, dragging our luggage
behind us.
It was 90F and no AC! If you thought Houston was a hot place, you ain’t
seen nothing! On top of that our little fan we were moving from room to
room crocked up. So, the first night was short and restless. Considering
that our fridge saw no food for 2 ½ months, we went shopping bright and
early! But the next night when I got something blowing at me I slept for 14
½ hours! Between a long trip and a jet lag we were really wiped out.
A few days later we were back in the saddle. As you can imagine, there were
1001 issues to take care of at the office. For one thing I found 511 new
emails (EXcluding spam) in my inbox. I actually counted! Spending time with
our friends and supporters was great, but we really missed our daily
ministry.
We already have one praise and one prayer request to share. Our JESUS
Film/Coverage ministry just finished a special summer project. We used
English as a tool, so the strategy was called an “English Camp”. I
personally know how effective a strategy like that can be since I too came
to know the Lord at an “English camp” Campus Crusade has sponsored in
Moldova back in 1992. Our Coverage director told me that 28 people have
made a decision for Christ at the camp! Praise the Lord!
And one prayer request before I close, if I may. Our campus teams have just
started 4 more summer projects for university students. Please pray for the
Lord to work in their hearts and to save many!
Thank you for supporting us in this life-changing ministry!
Again... from Moldova with love,
Yuri and Olga Boldirev
