Our Journey in Pictures

January 2010

Dear friends,

Stop reading this letter! Ah??? I do mean it. Please go back to the envelope and check those stamps out. Do you a see a familiar face?! Something new we decided to try.

Welcome to the 2010. It is hard to believe we are in the double digits now. Feels like just yesterday we were dreading the turn of millennium with all the talk about YTK. I remember stocking up on stuff then?

OK, where do I start? Life never slowed down even after we transitioned back to the Moldovan ministry. We are still going full speed sometimes wondering how in the world we can get all the bases covered. God is smiling seeing us huffing and puffing giving us grace to keep going.

Our trip to California with 2 Moldovan Campus Crusade staff went very well. Olga and I praise God for allowing us to come alongside of them and helping them raise their much needed prayer and financial support. Both Zhenya and Sasha reported for their assignments back in Moldova having needed funds for their important ministry.

You also know that last month I took a trip to Croatia where I was asked to conduct an internal financial audit. This was likewise an important ministry assignment which allowed me to help my colleagues take a fresh look at their structures and systems, to make sure they have enough checks and balances, segregation of duties, internal controls and other important things. All for the purpose being good stewards of the resources people like you generously share with their ministry. I am very glad Campus Crusade works hard to protect its assets as well as its reputation.

Hopefully, by now our postcard from Romania reached you as well. The last American missionary (who was serving as the overall Moldovan ministry director for the last 10 years) transferred his leadership to the Moldovan National Leadership Team (where I serve as the Operations Director) being led by a Moldovan. You can see him being prayed for during the inauguration ceremony. So, our ministry is 100% indigenous now.

Olga finally decided to get her driver’s license. OK, I realize that in your country girls get one when they hit 16. It is not true in our culture, however. One needs to be VERY aggressive (defensive driving is unheard of) in order to survive on the Moldovan roads which are also in pretty bad condition without lanes being properly marked, good road signs or street lights. Because of all that, most women just do not feel comfortable waging a war in the urban jungle. But things slowly change, so we decided she should go ahead and get that taken care of. So, between her ministry responsibilities (Olga works one full day at the office and I play Mr. Mom) and going to drivers ed school, I get to take care of Rebecca quite often, something I do gladly.

All 3 of us send you lots of warm love from cold Moldova!

Yuri, Olga, Rebecca

P.S. Oh, Rebecca took her first sled ride yesterday. We never saw a happier child!
